The most far-reaching tax net on this site This page is unusual among our jurisdictions: the appeal is mobility and opportunity, not tax relief. A US green card makes you a tax resident on worldwide income, exactly like a citizen. Federal income tax reaches 37%, most states add their own, and the United States is one of very few countries to tax on the basis of citizenship and residence rather than where you live. Renouncing later can trigger an expatriation exit tax.

EB-5 is a green card, and a path to a passport EB-5 grants permanent residence for 800,000 USD in a job-creating project in a targeted area (or 1,050,000 USD elsewhere), creating at least ten US jobs. After a two-year conditional period, conditions are removed, and naturalisation becomes possible after five years — leading to one of the world’s strongest passports.

Weigh it as opportunity, not tax planning For families set on living, studying or building in the US, EB-5 is often the cleanest route. As a pure wealth-mobility play it is the opposite of a low-tax base — go in with eyes open, and plan the tax exposure before, not after.

Residency, tax residence and duties elsewhere Because the US taxes citizens and green-card holders wherever they live, this status follows you globally; specialist cross-border tax advice is essential.
