Does EB-5 give US citizenship?
Not directly. It grants a green card (permanent residence). After two years the conditions are removed, and citizenship becomes possible after five years of permanent residence with substantial physical presence.
How much must I invest?
800,000 USD in a project in a targeted employment area (rural or high-unemployment) or a qualifying infrastructure project, or 1,050,000 USD for a standard project. The project must create at least ten full-time US jobs, and the capital is at genuine risk.
Will the US tax my worldwide income?
Yes. A green card makes you a US tax resident on worldwide income, like a citizen, with federal rates up to 37% plus state taxes, and renouncing later can trigger an exit tax. This is the single most important thing to plan for before applying.
How long does it take?
The programme announces 24–48 months. That is the official figure, not a commitment.
Do I have to travel there?
A green card is a residence you must actually keep: extended absences can be treated as abandonment. Conditions are removed after two years, and naturalisation becomes possible after five years of permanent residence, with substantial physical presence.
Who can I include in the application?
One investment covers the investor, a spouse and unmarried children under 21.
Which investment routes exist?

Do I get the money back?
The cheapest route is recoverable, subject to market value. Recoverable is not risk-free.

How does it start?

Where do your figures come from?
Every figure carries at least one official government source and the date we last checked it. A figure backed only by a law firm or the trade press does not qualify — you will find the sources at the bottom of each page.
Why do you publish two processing times?
Because the announced figure and the observed figure often differ, sometimes by a year. Saint Lucia announces 90 days; practitioners report 14 to 24 months. Publishing only the official number would repeat a sales claim; publishing only the observed one would not be verifiable. We attribute both.
How often are the pages rechecked?
Each page shows its own verification date. Programmes change without notice, so treat any figure older than a few months as a starting point for your own check, not as settled fact.
What do you do when the sources disagree?
We publish the disagreement rather than pick a side. You will see what the official text says, what practitioners report, what remains unestablished, and who to ask. A reader committing several hundred thousand has the right to know a point is disputed.
Is this legal or tax advice?
