Limits and drawbacks
- The E-2 route is sold across the sector as an immediate benefit of citizenship. Whether it requires three years of prior domicile is genuinely unsettled — see the disputed point below before relying on it.
- Real estate carries 50,000 USD in government fees on top of the investment, and resale after the five-year hold is taxed at 5 to 15 percent.
- Any source of funds above 10,000 USD triggers enhanced due diligence, which lengthens processing.
- Applications from Russian and Belarusian nationals have been suspended since March 2023 under Circular No. 2 of 2023.
What it gets you
- Visa-free access to China, unique among Caribbean programmes
- Grenada holds an E-2 treaty with the United States — see the disputed point below on what that actually allows and when
- Broad family definition with no age ceiling on dependent parents and grandparents
Does Grenadian citizenship give immediate access to the US E-2 investor visa?
- What the official source says
- The US Department of State lists Grenada as an E-2 treaty country. Neither that listing nor any Grenadian government source states a minimum period of citizenship or domicile before applying.
- What practitioners report
- Several immigration practitioners state that the AMIGOS Act of 2022 requires three years of domicile in Grenada before an E-2 application can be filed. Sources disagree on whether this is already applied or still pending implementation.
- What is not settled
- No official US or Grenadian source confirms or denies that the three-year requirement is in force as of July 2026. Anyone considering Grenada primarily for E-2 access should put the question in writing to the Investment Migration Agency and to a US immigration attorney before committing funds.
