Grenada citizenship by investment

Grenada citizenship by investment

Grenada grants citizenship from a 235,000 USD donation to the National Transformation Fund, or 270,000 USD in approved real estate, with official processing of three to six months. Its distinctive draw is access to the United States E-2 investor visa — but whether a prior domicile period now applies is disputed, and we set out both positions rather than sell the claim.

What Grenada citizenship by investment is Grenada's citizenship by investment lets you acquire a full Grenadian passport in exchange for a qualifying investment, without living there first. It is one of the five Caribbean citizenship-by-investment programmes, and the only one that opens a door — debated below — to the United States. Approval is at the government's discretion; meeting the investment is necessary, never sufficient.

Two routes: a $235,000 donation or $270,000 in real estate There are two qualifying paths. The donation route starts at US$235,000 to the National Transformation Fund — a one-off, non-refundable contribution and the simplest, fastest option. The real-estate route starts at US$270,000 in a government-approved project, typically a share in a hotel or resort, held for a mandatory period before you may sell. On paper the property can return part of your capital; in practice the approved-property resale market is thin, so treat "recoverable" with caution. Which fits you depends on one honest question — do you need the money back? Our guide to donation vs real estate works through it.

The real total is higher than the headline The $235,000 and $270,000 are qualifying investments, not the final bill. Government processing and due-diligence fees are charged per person and scale with family size, and the real-estate route adds transfer and holding costs. A single applicant and a family of four pay very different totals on the "same" programme. Read how the true total cost is built, and price your own household on our cost calculator before you plan around a number.

The E-2 visa question — read both positions Grenada's headline advantage is that its nationals can apply for the US E-2 investor visa, a long-term route to live and run a business in the United States that most Caribbean passports do not offer. Here is the honest part: whether Grenada now requires a prior period of domicile or residence before an E-2 application is disputed. Some practitioners report that a residence period is expected; others state citizens remain immediately eligible. Because the sources conflict and this is the single reason many people choose Grenada, we do not sell the claim — confirm current E-2 eligibility with a US immigration attorney and the treaty rules directly. Our dedicated page on the Grenada passport and the E-2 visa lays out both positions.

Vetting: assume it is thorough Every applicant is vetted. Grenada commissions independent due-diligence firms to verify identity, background and — above all — the lawful source of your funds. A large sum that cannot be traced to a clean origin is the most common reason a file stalls. Prepare bank statements, tax records and ownership documents early; our guide to how the vetting works explains what investigators look for.

Timeline: three to six months, officially Grenada quotes an official processing time of three to six months. Treat that as the government's own review window, not the whole journey — document preparation before submission and any investigator queries can extend it. Build in a buffer and see the timeline, step by step for where the delays hide.

What the passport gives you — and how it's taxed A Grenadian passport adds visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to a broad set of countries and can include your spouse, children and, in cases, parents. On tax, citizenship is not the same as tax residency: acquiring the passport does not by itself change where you are taxed. See how Grenada taxes residents on our Grenada tax overview, and read second citizenship and taxes for the general rule.

Before you commit Grenada suits someone who wants a fast, family-friendly Caribbean passport and values the (disputed) E-2 angle — provided they verify it independently. Compare it against the region on our Caribbean citizenship page and against the cheapest options if budget leads. Confirm the current investment amounts, fees and rules with the Grenada Citizenship by Investment Committee, use only licensed agents — our guide to risks, scams and vetting an agent shows what to check — and see how we verify every figure on our methodology page.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Grenada passport give me a US E-2 visa straight away?

Grenada holds an E-2 treaty with the United States, but whether you can apply immediately or must first hold three years of domicile is genuinely unsettled. No official source confirms either reading. Put the question to the Investment Migration Agency and a US immigration attorney before relying on it.

Can I include my parents?

Yes. Grenada allows financially dependent parents and grandparents of any age, and unmarried siblings aged 18 or over without children.

Freedom. Anywhere.
